Thoughts on football...

So, we are watching the Superbowl RIGHT NOW.  Well, actually, it is a Glee commercial, but the game is still running.  The team we are rooting for is down, and they have some way to go before they can call their effort a win.

(But I hope they pull it off - my hubby is a huge Steeler's fan.)

However, these are my real thoughts on football.  If you are a real fan, or understand the rules a lot better than I do and/or care a lot more about the sport, you should stop reading.  Because if football were run my way, it would look like this:

  • The whole game, from start to finish, would last about 15 minutes.  (I would really prefer it taking the same amount of time as a beam or floor routine, but I don't want to be too stingy.)
  • That's real minutes, not minutes plus time outs and pass interferences and touch-down dances and all that.
  • 15 minutes.
  • They would each get a few possessions, try really hard, and be done.
  • Everyone would go home, and the best team would have won.
Because really, why does it need to go on for sooooo long?  Seriously, 1 hour turning into 3? Or 4?  What is the sense in that?

So this fine Superbowl evening, I hid out upstairs with Ben, watching Disney Channel (any Enchanted fans out there? She is just so cute. And I love her co-star's hair.)  I came down as the third quarter ended, and kept busy, offering encouraging words while I thought otherwise.

What do you think?  Do you think a football game lasting as long as beam routine is too long?  Or just long enough?  Discuss.
