About Me

In 2008 I did a 100 things post.  But these things are outdated, so here are my updated 100 things.  This is a work in progress; I'm only up to #53 so far.

  1. I have 2 boys, Thomas and Ben.  They are really cool and keep me on my toes.
  2. I love to read.
  3. I love to run.
  4. I have 3 sisters and a mom.
  5. My dad has been living with Alzheimer's for almost 5 years.
  6. We recently moved down the street frm the house we had lived in for 10 years.
  7. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Yep, I'm one of those Mormon chicks.
  8. I like my blog. It serves as a journal for me.  It's a good way to document my life right now and connect with others.
  9. I met my husband and my mother-in-law on the same day.  We all worked together for over a year.
  10. I was friends with my husband, then we weren't friends, then we dated, then we got married.
  11. The time from us meeting to marrying was 4 years, 9 months.  Give or take a few days.
  12. I like to make friends.
  13. I like to eat the same thing at certain restaurants.  I don't try new things very often.  If I'm going to a favorite eatery, I want that *thing* that I eat there.
  14. I could eat out every night if I would let myself.
  15. I don't change things much.  I tend to stay put once I've established myself somewhere, whether it's work or a house or whatever.  I guess I really like sameness.  Boring, I know.
  16. I think that Excel is one of the coolest programs ever made.  I am a real geek when it comes to Excel.
  17. I like bright spaces.  I would put recessed lighting and 100 watt bulbs in every room of the house if I could.
  18. I'm kind of cheap.
  19. The older I get, the more girly I am.  I recently discovered high heeled shoes and hair spray.  Who knew those items were so helpful and fun?
  20. Speaking of, I really want a pedicure.  I wear flip flops all summer and my feet look terrible.
  21. I hardly ever have nail polish on.  I don't know if I currently have any nail polish to put on my toes.
  22. I have to have my finger nails short. It makes me feel icky when they are too long.
  23. I braid my hair every night.  This started after I had Ben.  I couldn't stand my hair falling in my face while I was nursing him at night.  Now it's just a habit.  I feel really out of control if my hair is not braided before I go to bed.  Shudder.
  24. My hair is curly but it can also be straight.  I wear a lot of ponytails.  I don't have a problem with getting up, putting my hair in a ponytail and going about my day.
  25. Because my hair has natural curl, I will never ever look good at the beach. I have too many fly away hairs all over and when they get wet and then dry they just look terrible.  It kind of bugs me that I'll never be one of those cute girls who look great after swimming.  Oh well.
  26. Maybe I would if I shaved my head. But I don't think that would ever happen. My husband likes my hair long.
  27. I usually have my husband cut my hair when I get hair cuts.  This might happen a couple of times a year, on a good year.
  28. Luckily, my kids have my husband's hair.  I love my boys hair.  They both have a lot of it, which I am glad about.
  29. Good night, enough about hair.  I don't know why that went on so long.
  30. My favorite book is The Time Traveler's Wife. I read it once a year.
  31. I also love The Poisonwood Bible,
  32. East of Eden,
  33. The Mists of Avalon,
  34. Possession.
  35. I love the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but my least favorite book in the series is Fellowship of the Ring. I spend most of the book anxious to get to Rivendale, then want to hurry through the Mines of Moria, only to cry my way through the time spent in Lothlorien.
  36. I can't stand Frodo. He is a whiney baby.
  37. I love Sam, and Aragorn, and Faramir.  I wrote a whole blog post about Faramir once, here.
  38. I like to do 10 lists at the end of every month. Lists are boring, but I like documenting when things happen so I can go back and remember.
  39. I like to write about the books I read, but I seem to have lost my mojo to do it.
  40. We used to be very vacation cautious.  I wrote about it over here.
  41. But now, we have discovered sunny San Diego and make huge efforts to get there sometime during the year. I can live with reliving a beach vacation every year....
  42. I would like to have a desert vacation sometime in our life.  I grew up spending each summer at Lake Powell, and miss the dry heat and warm water.
  43. I used to think I was a hippie.  It was fun.
  44. Most nights I do circles around the Internet while my hubby watches reruns of HGTV shows. Fun times.
  45. My current television obsession is that sexy Don Draper and his cast of Mad Men.  Mmm, Don. You are really, really fine.
  46. We have watched the first and second seasons twice.
  47. Damn my Dish Network subscription that doesn't include AMC.
  48. I graduated from the University of Utah a long time ago with an English degree. It was the fastest degree I could get after being in school for nearly 7 years.
  49. I have a friend who runs a book club that requires that you write in a book then mail it to someone else. It's fun.
  50. The books that I've read for this book club are: The Birth House, The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets, The House at Riverton, Cold Mountain, Little Bee, and The Septembers of Shiraz.  The comments in these books are really, really special to me.  They are from some amazing women who I know in real life and on the Internet.
  51. I can play the piano a little tiny bit.
  52. I wish I was a fabulous photographer, but I'm not. But I do love love love my camera.
  53. I love the beach.
  54. My favorite beach is Mission Beach.
  55. It's probably my favorite beach because it's 100 yards from the hotel we stay at in San Diego (The Catamaran.)
