Thoughts on football...

So, we are watching the Superbowl RIGHT NOW.  Well, actually, it is a Glee commercial, but the game is still running.  The team we are rooting for is down, and they have some way to go before they can call their effort a win.

(But I hope they pull it off - my hubby is a huge Steeler's fan.)

However, these are my real thoughts on football.  If you are a real fan, or understand the rules a lot better than I do and/or care a lot more about the sport, you should stop reading.  Because if football were run my way, it would look like this:

  • The whole game, from start to finish, would last about 15 minutes.  (I would really prefer it taking the same amount of time as a beam or floor routine, but I don't want to be too stingy.)
  • That's real minutes, not minutes plus time outs and pass interferences and touch-down dances and all that.
  • 15 minutes.
  • They would each get a few possessions, try really hard, and be done.
  • Everyone would go home, and the best team would have won.
Because really, why does it need to go on for sooooo long?  Seriously, 1 hour turning into 3? Or 4?  What is the sense in that?

So this fine Superbowl evening, I hid out upstairs with Ben, watching Disney Channel (any Enchanted fans out there? She is just so cute. And I love her co-star's hair.)  I came down as the third quarter ended, and kept busy, offering encouraging words while I thought otherwise.

What do you think?  Do you think a football game lasting as long as beam routine is too long?  Or just long enough?  Discuss.

Oh Becky, I love you. I've had the SAME THOUGHT before. (About Baseball too. If they're really professional athletes, shouldn't they be able to work under the pressure of a real deadline? It'd be so much more exciting!) Though I can't complain too much because I've never actually watched a football game. At least not a full game all the way through. So really, whatever makes them happy...& as long as I don't have to deal with it... (Yes, that includes BYU football games, even though I went to school there 4 years. And was friends with a kicker (is that a real position? am I remembering correctly?) Obviously not good enough friends.)

I HATE ball sports. When it's on I always remember mom yelling at dad "turn that down!" Plus Kendell used to get way tooooo into it and then would be grumpy and annoyed for days if his team lost. (He doesn't do that anymore.) Basketball is especially hard for me to listen to. The sound of the cleats on the floor makes me unbearably anxious.

Plus I think they're all rich, overpaid babies.

That said, I am at a place in my life that I am OK with it. I DO NOT want to watch it. I WON'T. But if Kendell wants to I don't care anymore.
